Stopping to say thank you.
We people these days seem to all be simply crazy busy - most all of the time. Running here, running there, working, errands, etc. It’s crazy. The last couple of months have been especially crazy for me. God’s really made me think about something though. I need to still take time, working 100 hours in a week or 40, to stop and thank people and encourage them. It always changes my day...

The Power of the Church
Not sure exactly why - but it’s just been on my mind today. The awesome potential power of the Church. Not a building. Not a service. But a group of people committed to growing closer to Christ and behaving like Him. As the church, let’s not pass the buck onto some community group, the government, a booster club, etc. Let’s make change happen - we’re the ones best equipped,...

The Thing About "Creativity" →
blainehogan: During an interview today I was asked what I thought about the word, “creativity.” I’ve been working in a church now for 3 years (my previous were in the secular art world) and I have to say…I’m still getting used to the word, “creativity,” being used as a noun. As if it were a thing that you…

Shut Up. It's Quiet Time.
If you’ve been going to church for any extended amount of time you’ve probably heard that you should consistently have quiet time. Shut up, pray and read the bible. That apparently is the magic to growing in your relationship with Christ. I get it, I really do - and I think the people saying it mean to be helpful, but I’m going to question this simplistic statement. What’s...

Prayer
Life is difficult. It gets tiring. It gets difficult. Unexpected things happen. And on and on the list can go about all the difficulties, right? They’re there. They always will be. So now what? I think one of our greatest ways to combat all this junk that comes along is through prayer. Prayer is important, right? I think most people who probably read my blog would respond with a confident...

Consume to Create
I think creativity is probably something more commonly discussed by my generation than ones in the past. Obviously I say that with little ability to prove it - but it’s just a hunch. Look around, there’s so many blogs, tweets, facebook updates, books, magazines… all about being creative. It’s easy to look at all of this and assume that it’s just a given that everyone...

That's It! I'm Standing Up!
Standing up at my desk that is! (cheesy? yes!) Okay, but really, I’ve been noticing some people around the interwebs for the past month or so talking about having a standing desk and it got me intrigued. Today I decided that if I could get something I wanted for < $100 I’d do it - and I succeeded! I found a bar table at Ikea that seems to be the right height and I’m gonna...

Because I think my new URL for shortening URLs is so cool, I thought it would be fun to put everything I share on here with the tag “LukeLikesIt” - that way if you ever want a list of all the links I’ve shared to other people/blogs/music/etc you can get it in one place. Attraction & Weight
Maybe I am to open in what I write on this blog, maybe this will be one of those times - but I’m gonna go for it anyways. I know this doesn’t sound politically correct to some, but let’s start out with this understanding… It is more natural to be physically attracted to someone of the opposite sex if they are physically fit. I’m not saying that fat people are bad,...

Father
God is our father. All the good things about earthly fathers we see. None of the bad things about earthly fathers we see. Protector. Comforter. Lover. Guide. Encourager. Leader. But, just like we see everyday, kids have a choice to let their fathers father them or they can run the opposite way. Do we let God be our father, or are we to busy running away from him to experience him in that way?

Trust
Trust is such an important thing. Do you trust those you work with? How can we foster trust with those who work for us? How about those we work for? I believe very little substance is accomplished without trust. Don’t get me wrong, I think with trust comes some accountability and checking up on people too - but without a foundation of trust, accountability doesn’t accomplish much...

Playing it safe.
Do you play it safe? Or do you fight for what you believe in? In your work, in your family, in your friendships, in your spirituality - do you fight for what you believe in? Or are you to afraid and therefore just play it safe? Take a risk. Fight for what you believe in. Leave it all out on the field. You might lose a lot - but you might just win a few times too - something you’ll never...

Or just the opposite - you want to read me be a fan and tell me how great it is that I am a fan? I’d...

How I'm Becoming Un-Stuck →
blainehogan: It’s been almost a month since I’ve last posted. This morning I was asking myself if my time off has been a good or bad thing. To begin with, it wasn’t a conscious decision. Like many things in life, it just sort of happened. In some ways my time off has been glorious. In fact, it has been a…

Crap, fear is tough stuff.
It is soo easy to live in fear. I am. Right now. And, if I can be honest with you, I still haven’t really decided to overcome my fear in regards to one specific area of my life. It’s tough stuff. You see, I really want to be transparent and share my heart in this one area - but I’m just a little scared boy about it. Why? Because, if I open up and am honest, I feel it could go...

You are almost there.
You are almost there. God wired you up in this strange way for a purpose. It’s really not strange, it’s on purpose.   Embrace it. Pick that one thing that you constantly think about and polish it. Focus on it. See what kind of amazing person comes out on the other side. God doesn’t want you to be the best at everything. God wants you to be the best at the thing you are...

blainehogan: When we began talking about what we wanted to do to honor MLK weekend we started with his famous speech. As inspiring as it is, it seems that we often miss the genesis of it. Do you want to see Detroit get better?
I’ll write more about this later, but I couldn’t resist at least letting you all know about this awesome site. It’s Detroit2020.com and the main point of it is to look at how we can make Detroit a better city in the year 2020. In order to make it better then, we have to think about it now. This site, put on by Channel 7 WXYZ is awesome - they are taking a positive stand on...

Creative Arts Team
Creative Arts team - you’ve heard that term thrown around, especially in churches these days, right? Why that name? Isn’t it repetitive anyways? Can you have art without it being creative? Also, don’t you think all people have creativity built into them by God? I do. Hmmm… What’s a better name for that type of team?

Tracking Goals To Succeed in 2011
Yesterday I wrote a tweet, trying to be funny about the revolutionary idea I had… Obviously it really isn’t revolutionary, but it was just so funny to me that it popped into my head like a revolutionary idea. Why hadn’t I thought about it before? Regardless of why, I’m doing it now. I’ve made a list of some of my top goals, figured out what “success”...

A few days ago, I was catching up on some of my favorite blogs and read Carlos Whittaker’s post called Ragamuffin Digital Toolbox 2010.
